Narrative

What to make of Addie Ramsay? Four facts are known about her:
-born around 1861, on Prince Edward Island
-emigrated in 1885
-lived in Cambridge, Mass
-parents were James and Alice, on her first marriage record

The first three facts point to her being Addie Ramsay, daughter of Andrew and Maria (Ramsay) Ramsay, and that's where I am parking her for now. The names she gave on her marriage record - unless the minister made a mistake, or got the witnesses mixed up with her parents' names - don't fit.

However, I can't find a James Ramsay who married an Alice. She could be a daughter of James Ramsay and Flora Campbell - perhaps she didn't know her mother. I even checked to see if her mother might have been an Ellis - but this doesn't seem to be the case.

There were two Adeline Ramsays in the 1881 census, born around this time on the Island. One was the daughter of Andrew and Maria. The other was the daughter of Archibald in Lot 11, and this Addie is definitely not her.

Addie, daughter of Andrew, was named in his will, and probably went with the family to Massachusetts - after that, there is nothing, unless she is the Addie Ramsay who married William Porter in Boston in 1887.
