Narrative

Levi and Lottie Ann's daughter was baptized as Dora Belle; she was referred to as Dora in both a local history and her mother's obituary. In her mother's obituary, Dora was Mrs. Dora Woods of Ontario. Among my father's clippings is a death notice for Doris I. Williams, who died in Beach Grove Nursing Home in June 1994. Dad wrote that she was Levi Dyment's daughter beside the notice. Her parent's names were not given, nor was the name of her husband. Children were Ruth, Kathleen, Orville, and Erland.

From Find A Grave, there is an entry for: Doris Dyment Wood 1911 - 1994 b Tyne Valley in the People's Cemetery in Charlottetown, and from The Descendants of Robert Wood and Elizabeth Carter on the Island Register there was:

ii. John Wilbur Wood, born __-Nov-1904 in Alexandra, Queens, PE. He married Doris Dyment, married __-___-1927. John died __-___-1961 in Alexandra, Queens, PE.

I have to assume that around the time of her marriage Dora decided to call herself Doris, which at the time was a much more popular name than the old-fashioned Dora.
