Narrative

Charles Henry was the youngest son of Hector and Elizabeth. His mother died when he was an infant, and he was living with relatives of his mother at the time of the 1881 census. Henry McDougall was left $50 in the will of Thomas Sage.

Charles, aged about 30 and his younger brother George, age 21, were involved in a robbery in 1895. George turned Queen's Evidence and testified against his brother. He [George] Tells How the Robbery Was Effected and the Stolen Goods Disposed Of. A telephone message from Alberton states that this morning Constables Charles R Burke and George Gillion arrested George McDougall and Henry McDougall, of Hills River, and Ernest Forsvth, of Dock, for breaking into Goodstein’s shop on last Sunday night. Charles H MacDougall, 80, of 13 Washington St., for more than 50 years a highly respected resident of this town died early this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs Thomas Coffin, following an illness of several months. He was born 18 July 1867 in Elmsdale, Prince Edward Island and spent his early life in that community. As a young man he learned the carpenter and building trade and became proficient in both. When he came to Amesbury he continued this work for a number of years. Because of his well recognized ability as a craftsman of unusual ability he was continually occupied.
Mr MacDougall at the request of the late James H Walker became superintendent of the maintenance department of the Walker Body Company, a post he held until that plant closed. Amesbury Daily News Sept 3 1947
