NO PROOF THAT HE BELONGS WITH THIS FAMILY

John's baptism was not recorded in the PEI Baptismal Index. I believe he was the son of Neil Ramsay and Katherine McIntosh.

The entry for this John Ramsay on find a grave says "To date we have been unable to find definitive proof but we believe the parents of this John Ramsay were Margaret Murphy and Malcolm Ramsay." However,John's date of birth seems to be about 10 years out from the rest of Malcolm and Margaret's known children, so they were probably not his parents.

He could be the son of John and Margaret (Penman) Ramsay, or of Neil Ramsay and Katherine McIntosh. With a daughter named Catherine, I am liking this second possibility, so I am placing him with that family. Plus, I think the John Ramsay in Lot 13 who married Anne Pickering is a better fit for John and Margaret's family.

The marriage of John and Elizabeth was not in the online PEI Marriage Registers, so we don't know if this was a first marriage for John. Elizabeth's name and their dates came from their gravestone: John Ramsay died April 1865 in his 53rd years; his wife Elizabeth McLellan died May 1897 in her 75th year.

I am also assuming that John had a first wife, and a son Neil who died young. No proof, but it fits. However, only his children with Elizabeth were in his will, and his newspaper death notice said a widow and 6 children.

John Ramsay of Lot 14, husband of Elizabeth, left a will. He mentioned his brother Donald, and sons Ebenezer, Philip, Allan Fraser, and John. Daughters were Catherine and Elizabeth Jane.

Elizabeth was a widow in Lot 14 in the 1881 census. Her son, John Ramsay, age 26, was the head of household.

Elizabeth was living with her married son John "Pamry" in the 1891 census. Elizabeth and Catherine gave their date of emigration as 1898 on the 1910 US census.

Willard Ramsay's farm in Lot 14 was near the farms of Neil and John Ramsay of Lot 14 on earlier maps.
