Narrative

Lucy Jane was born on 13 May 1880 in Prince Edward Island. She was living with her married sister in the States in the 1910 census, and later that year married James Wallace Appley, the son of William L Appley and Kate McAllister in Massachusetts.

Lucy and her sisters made a few visits to Irishtown to visit their parents after their marriages, and the birth of Lucy's son was noted in the Guardian. Lucy and her husband moved to Florida, to the St. Petersburg area, by 1918 where her husband founded his company, J. W. Appley. In 1935 Lucy was living in St. Petersburg, Florida with her husband and only son, James E. Appley, age 17. Both men were working as machinists in the family-owned business.

Lucy died in Florida in 1941 at the age of 62. Mrs James W. Appley, prominent local church worker and resident of the city for 22 years died early yesterday morning in her home, 825 Highland Street N. She had been active in the church since 1919 and for several years was superintendent of the junior department of the Sunday School of First Presbyterian Church. She was the first interdenominational secretary here for the American Mission for Lepers and was one of the early presidents of the Berean Bible Class. She had also been a president of the PTA for her son's school.
Mrs Appley was survived by her husband, James W. Appley; a son James E. Appley; a grandson J. W. Appley, all of St. Petersburg. She is also survived by a brother George Mann, Prince Edward Island [William B. Mann] and a sister, Mrs Frank Brown, Far Rockaway, NY [Hannah Brace, Mrs Wayne Scott Brown]. Obituary in St Petersburg Times Jan 12 1941 pg2

Her husband remarried.

History of Florida: In 1915 Mr. Appley was married to Lucy M. Man of Prince Edwards Island, Canada, and they have one son, James Edwin.
