McArthur, Maria

Birth Name McArthur, Maria
Gender female

Narrative

It is not easy finding appropriate homes for the grandchildren of Hugh McArthur! No proof that she belongs here, except there seems to be a connection to George Ellis, who married Ellen McArthur, and named a daughter Maria.

Another source says she was Marion or Miriam McArthur, and her name was given as Maria Ellis on other documents (this was a common mistake, children and grandchildren getting maiden names mixed up). Possible she was a widow? Possibly born between 1801-1815?

Maria, a spinster married Robert McArthur, a bachelor, in 1835. Robert McArthur (B) married Maria McArthur (S) both of Lot 14 by license February 4th 1835 in the presence of George Ellis and William Yeo.

They named a daughter Margaret Murray, which might suggest a connection to the family of Hugh and Peggy Murray.

Their last child was born in 1845.

In the will believed to be Alexander's, he didn't have a daughter Maria, but he had a son Robert.
