Mr. Henry Newcombe

There passed away on December 30 1933 at his home in Port Hill Mr. Henry Newcombe one of the oldest and most beloved residents of the community in his 91st year. Mr. Newcombe came with his parents from Devon England about 1847. On coming to the Island they settled in the Wiltshire, later moved to Port Hill, settling on a farm where the remainder of life was passed. Farming operations were conducted with ability, industry and success. Honest in all his business dealings, kind and unselfish, he has left his family a heritage that the world cannot give, neither can it take away. There survives his widow, formerly Minnie Larkin of Alberton; his son W. P. Newcombe, and his daughter Mrs. Percy Birch (Annie Enid). His eldest son William Leigh died in 1911. There are also eight grandchildren. Two sisters nearing the nonegenarian mark survive, Mrs. John Ramsay, Arlington and Mrs. Richard Gorrill, Northam.
An impressive funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. J. Phillips of Alberton in the home and in the Episcopal Church of which he had been a lifelong and devoted member. The pall bearers were Messrs. W. J. Dennis, Henry Yeo, Reginald Birch, Sydney Birch, Angus McLellan and Ernest Birch.
