James, born on Prince Edward Island about 1801, went to New Brunswick in 1822. The marriage of James Ramsay and Agnes "Hainey" in 1831 in Newcastle is probably James and Agnes Harvey - Angus Ramsay and a Taylor were witnesses. A man named James Ramsay was a witness at the marriage of Angus Ramsay and Jane Taylor in Newcastle.

James from PEI married Agnes Harvey from Dumfries, Scotland, and Jane Ramsay also from the Island (Lot 18) married Alexander Harvey in Newcastle. Jane Ramsay Harvey signed a land document with the other members of Malcolm and Ann Ramsay's family. It is tempting to think that James belongs in the same family, but the dates are off, slightly.

In 1851, James was a farmer in Newcastle area, with wife Agnes and children Thomas, Mary, James, Barbara, Agnes and Janet. In 1861, James, Thomas and son James were labourers, Mary and Janet were dressmakers, and Barbara and Agnes were domestic servants.

Thomas was head of household in 1871, a farmer. Agnes was a widow, and daughters at home were Mary, Barbara, Agnes and Jessie. By 1891, Barbara, Agnes and Jessie were in Newcastle, and in 1901, Barbara and Jessie were living in lodgings with Agnes Russell in Newcastle.

Died. At his residence, Newcastle, on Thursday, Nov. 26, after a lingering illness, which he bore with Christian fortitude and resignation to the Divine Will, Mr. James Ramsay, (formerly a native of P.E. Island,) in the 67th year of his age.

It is assumed that all Prince County Ramsays are related, but finding out how can be difficult!
