There passed peacefully away at her home in Bideford on April 9 Mrs Elizabeth McDougall at the ripe age of 90 years and two months. She was the widow of the late Duncan mcDougall of Bideford who predeceased her several years ago. mrs McDougall had been in robust health until a few days before her death and could walk a distance ofone or two miles in a manner that might well be envied by many a younger person. She was born in Bideford in the year 1827 and was the daughter of Hugh McArthur and Nellie Ramsay McArthur. Hugh McArthur (her father) was also born in bideford in 1801 he was a schoolteacher when a young man and afterwards engaged in agricultural pursuits, he became one of the most extensive farmers on the Island, he died in the prime of life in 1840. Nellie his wife was the daughter of John Ramsay a Scotch Highlander who served in the British Army at Bunker Hill and after the close of the American Revolution settled on a farm on the Island. Hugh and Nellie McArthur were the parents of 6 children, namely: Elizabeth, the subject of this sketch; William, late of Cambridge; Cornelius, who was formerly Superintendant of the Pittsfield Mass Cemetery; Sarah who married John Ramsay and lives in Cambridge, Mass; Matthias, who was accidentally killed in Jersey City; and Julia Ann, wife of Alexander Elder of Cambridge, Mass. Mrs McDougall who was one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of Bideford was the mother of 7 children, namely: Eleanor, wife of Fred McKenzie of Pittsfield, Mass; Cornelius of Washington State; Sarah, wife of John C. Morrison of Ellerslie died in 1906. Cassie, wife of Charles Cripps of New York; Winnie died in 1882; Mary, wife of John Gibson died in 1893 and Bannerman at home. She leaves to mourn 23 grandchildren among whom are Priv. Edward Morrison of Ellerslie, now serving in the trenches in France; cpl. Wm. Morrison, training in Summerside for the 105th reinforcements; Pvt Harry Morrison who gave his life for his country in France on March 4th of this year. She had 15 great grandchildren...
