My Family Tree

Edna, age 10, was living with her aunt Sarah in the 1900 US census. According to that record, she was born in Massachusetts October 1889, but I have been unable to find any record of her birth. Her parents were in California in 1887/88 and it is possible that Edna was born on their journey back to Massachusetts.

Although the date and place could both be wrong, Edna gave Brockton as her place of birth, although she changed the date of birth. She gave 1891 on her marriage record, 1893 on the 1920 US census, and 1892 on the 1940 US census.

Edna and her husband T. Gordon Smith were living in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1940, and when he died, but without a better source for her date of birth, it is difficult to tell if she is one of the many Edna Smiths in the SSDI.

Edna had the middle initial D. in some records, and used the name Edna Talmage Thayer Smith on a border crossing form. It is possible that the middle initial should have been just T., not Edna D. T. Thayer.

Edna and Gordon had two daughters.
