Ramsay, Flora
Birth Name | Ramsay, Flora |
Gender | female |
Age at Death | about 63 years, 8 months, 13 days |
Narrative
Based on her assumed date of birth and location, Flora would fit in the family of (1) Donald Ramsay and Marie Cannon, or (2) Neil Ramsay and Katherine McIntosh. There already was a Flora Ramsay in John Ramsay and Margaret Penman's family. Her date of birth is about 10 years off, for her to be a child of Michael Ramsay, but she did name a son Michael and a daughter Annie.
Angus Ramsay and George McDonald were witnesses at the marriage of Flora Ramsay and Hugh McDonald in Richmond Parish, PEI in 1832. William McGregor was the Presbyterian minister.
Hugh McDonald in Lot 8 was a farmer in 1861, with a household of 7, all Presbyterians. There was a married couple, probably the man and woman aged 45-60.
Donald Ramsay, labourer, Lot 14 was a witness when Hugh McDonald wrote his will in 1879, and a Donald Ramsay was living with her son Michael in 1881. Was he a brother?
Hugh McDonald wrote his will in 1879, leaving his farm to his son Michael, and some bedding and livestock to an unmarried daughter, Annabella. The witnesses were Donald Ramsay, Lot 14, who had died, and Samuel McDonald, who had gone to the States by the time the will was filed for probate by Michael, in 1895.
A Currie family tree on the Island Register says Flora and Hugh's daughter Nancy/Annie married John Currie, and the marriage record indicates that the bride and groom were from Lot 8.
Annabella was living with her brother Michael in 1881.
Possible other children:
Ronald McDonald, in Lot 8 in 1881, age 37, wife Margaret. Two oldest children were Flora and Hugh, then Maggie and Elizabeth, which could indicate a connection. Not named in Hugh's will.
Philip, age 37 - maybe not - no children named Hugh or Flora in 1881.
Port Hill Ledger, 1824
On August 1, 1824,
the entries list, one after another, Mrs. [Ellen?] MacArthur, Betsey Campbell,
Lot Thirteen, Flora Ramsay, Lot Thirteen and the wife of Donald Carr.
On August 21, 1824, Old Mrs. Smith came along with Mrs. MacArthur,
Betsy Campbell, Flora Ramsay and Mrs. Carr.
It is assumed that all Prince County Ramsays are related, but finding out how can be difficult!
