According to the history of Hamilton (Lot 18) by Earle Lockerby "Dougald was a shoemaker and farmer. His first wife was Margaret Matthews. Following her death he married Charlotte Blackmore. Dugald had a family of five: Russell, James, George, Robert and Bessie."
Dugald died without a will. His second wife petitioned the court to administer his estate. She said that "Dugald Campbell left him surviving his widow and the following children and no more: James, 8; George, 6; Robert 4 and Bessie Jane, 15 months." This sounds to me like a way to ensure that Russell and William did not have a claim on the estate.
