Age at Death 56 years, 7 months, 26 days

Narrative

A. H. was the son of Alexander Clifford McArthur and Emily Margaret McLean.

Albert Hatfield lived at home on the Island at least until the 1891 census, then emigrated to the United States. He - or perhaps his younger brother Alfred - sent home a picture taken in Vancouver - both names had been written on the photo.

A. H. McArthur, called Hat, married Clara Hansen in Washington, State in 1903. His parents were Alexander Clifford and Emily on the marriage record. They had one son. The marriage ended in divorce, and Clara remarried - Hat went to Wyoming.

Newspaper articles note that Hat was a rabble-rouser, who perhaps had a drinking problem: this was in 1907 and 1908, so it could have been what led to his divorce, or after. There was an "Albert H. McArthur" of the right age, in the 1910 US census, living in Idaho. This Albert said he had been married 7 years, but he was living in lodgings without his wife. He was a contractor, doing rock work.

Albert Hatfield McArthur, living in Caspar, Wyoming and working on road construction, filled out a World War 1 registration form in 1918. His contact was his mother on the Island. As a non-US citizen he would have been required to register, but not serve.

In the 1930 US census he was age 55, and said he was a widower, living in Natrona County, Wyoming. He did not fill in his age at the time of his first marriage, and said that he had been born in Massachusetts and his parents in Maine. It's lso possible that his landlady filled out the census for her lodgers. But his occupation remained the same. He indicated that he had not been a WW1 vet.

Newspaper clipping, undated:
Mrs. Emily MacArthur of Northam has received the sad news of the death of her eldest son, Albert Hatfield, at Wyoming, USA. Mr. McArthur, who was in his 57th year had resided in Wyoming for the last 17 years.

From the Maple Leaf, October 1932, page 174 "Death in Wyoming early September, age 57, Albert Hatfield McArthur, formerly of Northam."
