Notes
Note
The Alexander in Lot 13 said that both of his parents were born in Scotland; his obituary noted that his father, born in Scotland, emigrated from Kintyre to Malpeque, and then served in the Revolutionary War, which pretty well means his father was John the Yankee Ramsay and his mother was Catherine McKay.
However, if he and his wife followed the naming practices of the day, then they had children named after his wife's parents, John and Margaret. Their first two children were Neil and Mary Ann, which suggests a different set of parents for Alexander. In particular, there was no daughter named after his stated mother, Catherine.
In the 1861 census, Alexander was 30 years into his 99 year lease on a farm on the Trout River in Tyne Valley, Prince Edward Island. He had a household of 7. 2 boys and 1 girl between 5-15, one girl 15-21, 1 woman 21-45 and 1 woman 45-60. This doesn't account for all of his children.
Alex Ramsay, age 73, was in the 1881 census in Lot 13. Also in the household was Ann (74), Mary Ann (43), Amelia (36), Elizabeth (36), Alex (13), James (33) and Annie (22).
In 1891, in Lot 13, there was: Alex Ramsay, 84, a widower and born on the Island. He was living with his daughter Mary A, age 53. Although the following entry is for another house, the head of the household is James Ramsay (age 46), described as a son, with Annie, a daughter-in-law, age 31. The grandchildren were: Eliza (9), Alfred (8), Maggie (6), Laura (4), Spurgeon (2), and Ida, about 4 months.
According to his obituary he was survived by 4 sons and 4 daughters.

Will of Alex Ramsay, Lot 13, mentions only son James and daughter Elizabeth. Lemuel or Samuel Ramsay was the executor.
