Narrative

Janet Melvina was born in 1874, the daughter of William Mann and Mary Fraser. Melvina married John Nathanial Evans (1867-1943), the son of James Evans and Maria Profit, in 1908. In 1918, on the evening of January 22nd a large crowd gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John N. Evans, Burlington. to celebrate the anniversary of their wedding (Guardian newspaper). Friends and neighbours gave them a clock and a dinner set6.

Melvina died in 1926 at the age of 52, from a sore throat. According to her obituary, she had been greatly saddened by the death of her daughter Gladys at a young age. Pallbearers at her funeral were her 6 nephews: Keir, Allison, Leslie, Waldron, Archie, and Herdon Mann.

Some genealogies attribute the four children of John Nathaniel Evans and Janet Melvina Mann to John and his first wife. However, they are listed in the PEI Baptism database as being the children of his second wife, Janet Melvina.
