My Family Tree

Mary Ann was born in Prince Edward Island in October 1838 or 1840, the daughter of William Dyment and Euphemia McArthur, and was named for her two grandmothers. She married Roderick A. McNeill in Prince Edward Island on 21 September 1865. William Stuart was the minister, and Robert England and George Moreshead were the witnesses.

There were three children in the PEI Baptismal database for this couple: George Augustine (1866), Euphemia Jane (1866), and Annie Beatrice (1872). In 1881, Mary Ann and Roderick were living in Lot 7 with children George (15), Euphemia (12) and Annie (8). Roderick (Rodrick McNeil) was 35, and a carpenter; Mary Ann was 41. On the same census page were Mary Ann's brother Henry and his family.

In the 1900 US census they were living in Hull, Massachusetts. On the form, Mary and Roderick said they had been married 32 years, and had had four children, two of whom were living (daughter Annie had died in Massachusetts of TB in 1898 at the age of 25). The family had emigrated in 1885.

Mary died of cancer in 1901 at the age of 61. On her death certificate, her parent's names were given as Euphemia McArthur and William Dyment.
