My Family Tree

Ann was born in 1811, according to the 1881 census, or in 1813, as stated in Along the North Shore. An unsourced family tree on Ancestry says she was Mary Ann Ramsay, born 29 November 1813. A son's death certificate said she was born in Freetown, PEI.

Malcolm Ramsay and James Adams were witnesses at the marriage of Thomas Boyle and Ann Ramsay in 1835. There was also an earlier marriage license for Thomas Boyle, Lot 11 and FLORA Ramsay, Lot 13 in 1830 - Thomas was a bachelor in 1835, so perhaps he had hoped to marry Flora.

She seems to be too young to be sister of Malcolm's, and for her to be his daughter we would have to find an earlier marriage for Malcolm, whose wife, Eleanor Boyle was age 13 when Ann was born. He might have been her uncle.

From Lot 13, Ann could be an unrecorded child of John Ramsay and Margaret Penman, or she could belong to the family of Donald Ramsay and Marie Cannon. Most of the names Thomas and Ann gave their children seemed to have come from the Boyle side of the family. Ann did not name a son Malcolm, or John, but she did name a daughter Margaret. Another possibility is that she was a daughter of Malcolm Ramsay and Mary Murphy, but she would have had to have lied about her age in the 1881 census to fit in that branch, and a daughter Ann was not in his will. A child born in 1858 rules out Ann being much older than she claimed.

Thomas and Ann had a daughter buried in 1864.
