Freddie Phillips was raised by his grandparents, after the death of his mother in 1919, when he was 3.
Frederick Phillips and Charles Earl Lund were the last two men to be hung on Prince Edward Island. Phillips, age 25, and Lund had been drinking, and may have been responsible for the death of a Charlottetown butcher. It is also possible that they chose the wrong store to rob on the evening in question. Today, the evidence against them might have been judged circumstantial, but the jury found them guilty of murder.
