Narrative

In 1864, John Mollison Jr. (1850-1937) went with William Hayes to learn
the trade of building carriages and sleighs. After putting in his appren-
ticeship period of four years, he remained with Mr. Hayes until about
1872, when he moved to Tyne Valley where he opened his own carriage
shop. He had attended the Central Academy at Charlottetown and
obtained a Teacher's License. In 1874, he married Charlotte Emily
MacLean (1851-1891). In 1875 he taught school in Tyne Valley. Between
1878-1880, he taught school in Freeland, returning to Tyne Valley for two
more years. In 1894, he married Mary Cairns. Prior to 1900, he moved to
Summerside and became Editor of THE PIONEER and THE ISLAND FARMER.
In 1903, he qualified as a land surveyor. He also served as a Justice of the
Peace. About 1927, he gave up his survey work and devoted more time to
writing. He had four children by his first marriage, and one son, Robert
Lowell Mollison (1897-1971), by his second marriage. (from Roots and Branches by Pauline Millar)

He leaves to mourn one son Robert L. of Summerside and two daughters, Mrs. R. H. Haulbask of Cambridge Mass and Mrs. Hugh Thompson Cambridge Mass; one sister, Mrs. Riley of Cambridge and one half-brother William Bannerman in Edinburgh.

His first wife was Emily Mclean of Tyne Valley and the second Mary Cairns of Freetown.
