According to the Nina Ross genealogy of this family, William married Zylpha Mclean, and they lived in Campbellton PEI until the death of their daughter Mary. Mary was probably the "daughter" Mary in the household of John & Jane Mcdougall in the 1891 census. She died in 1900.

McDougall Mary M. Pioneer 8 January 1900, page 4, col. 8 At Campbellton on the 25th ult., Miss Mary M. McDougall, aged 18 years, 8 months and 17 days, daughter of William and Zilpha McDougall and granddaughter of the late John McDougall. She died trusting firmly in the merits of a crucified Redeemer.

William did go to the United States, possibly around 1880, where he married again after Zilpha's death.

In the 1905 South Dakota census, William, age 48, born Prince Edward Island was a machinery dealer. He had been in South Dakota for 17 years, and in the United States for 27 years.

In 1910, William and Elizabeth were in Montana with their son Kenneth, born in 1900 in South Dakota. William gave his place of birth as Prince Edward Island in the next census, when he and Elizabeth were living in Glacier, Montana. Their son was not living with them.

His wife, Isabelle Elizabeth sought a divorce in 1931.

William C. Mcdougall died in Glacier, Montana in 1940.

The newspaper item said McDougall, 83, originally from PEI died at Cut Bank Hospital on 22 or 23 Feb 1940.
