Dyment, John Butcher 1a
Birth Name | Dyment, John Butcher |
Gender | male |
Age at Death | 27 years, 20 days |
Narrative
John Butcher was the son of Charles Dyment and Elizabeth born in PEI and baptized in 1859 by Rev. John Watson Butcher, a Bible Christian minister, in the O'Leary Bible Christian Chapel (see attached picture of the Rev. Butcher - it is possible that the name Watson in the Dyment family also came from him).
It is assumed that he is the John Dyment, age 21, who appears in the household of his brother Levi in the 1881 census in Lot 13, a farmer.
This is not the John Dyment who married Catherine Murray. John B. Dyment died young:
Suddenly at Elmsdale, of Heart Disease, on the 27th ult, Mr. John B. Dyment, of Port Hill, aged 27 years. His remains came by train to his widowed mother for burial. Deceased was a young man of promise, who made many friends wherever known. A short time before his death he was hopefully converted to Christ and was when the summons came to him awaiting an opportunity to make a public profession of his faith in baptism according to the command of the Lord. He died in triumphs of faith. His only desire to live was that he might glorify his Redeemer on earth; but he was called up higher to enjoy the glory of waiting the saved." Summerside Journal and Western Pioneer, 15 October 1885 page 3 col 3
His mother Elizabeth was the only widow Dyment in Lot 13 in 1885, and the age fits the son of Charles and Elizabeth.
The attached picture is John Watson Butcher, Bible Christian minister, after whom John was named. It is not a photo of John Butcher Dyment.
