JOHN CAMPBELL
John Campbell (1819-1883) the ancestor of the Freetown Campbells was born in Lot 16, Prince County, the son of Donald Campbell II and his wife, Jane Murray of North Bedeque, and grandson of Donald Campbell and David Murray, United Empire Loyalists.

John grew up in the home of his grandfather, David Murray, in North Bedeque. He married on 24 Aug. 1843, his cousin Ann Rix (1820-1895), daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Murray) Rix of North Bedeque.

His son Hugh John related that in 1853 this was forest through which a fire had run a few years previous. There they raised their family of four sons and three daughters and one foster daughter and made their home and cleared the land.
