My Family Tree

ALFRED GORRILL, son of Humphrey Gorrill and Eleanor Dyment, was born at Glenwood 17 January 1862. In Summerside 30 December 1885 he married Ada Emma MacWilliams, who was born at Tryon 18 June 1865, a daughter of Samuel Leard MacWilliams (1820-1911) and Elizabeth Ada Boulter (1821-1916). The Meacham Atlas of 1880 showed Alfred Gorrill's 50 acre farm.

Three of their children were in the PEI Baptismal Index, Alida L. (1888), Everett Samuel (1893), and Walter Alfred (1893). The family was living in Lot 8 in 1901.

Ada died 19 March 1917 at the age of 51. She had given birth to five children: Alida, Everett, Walter, George and Humphrey, who died at five weeks 5 December 1905.

Alfred married again, to Anne Eleanor Sheen, daughter of James Sheen and Christine McKinley. Annie was born 21 August 1886 and was 24 years younger than Alfred. The wedding took place in Summerside 3 September 1919. They had one child, Harry William.

In the 1921 census, Alfred and Annie were living on the Hamilton Road in Lot 8 with Everett, 26 Walter 21 and Cora, 12.

Alfred Gorrill died at Glenwood 12 August 1934 at the age of 73. Annie died June 1964 in her seventy-eighth year.

ADA EMMA5 M'WILLIAMS (SAMUEL4, JAMES3, DAVID2, DAVID1) was born 18 Jun 1865 in Tryon (2 mi W of Crapaud), Lot 28, Prince Co., PEI, Canada, and died 19 Mar 1917 in (Millburn West United Church Cemetery 8,2,3). She married ALFRED GORRILL, son of HUMPHRY GORRILL and ELEANOR DYMENT. He was born 17 Jan 1862 in Glenwood (Pierre Jacques, Lot 8, Prince Co.), PEI, Canada, and died 1934 in (Glenwood United Church Cemetery 8,6,12).

iii. WALTER ALFRED GORRILL, b. 1899, Glenwood, Lot 8, Prince Co., PEI, Canada; d. 1928, (Glenwood United Church Cemetery 8,6,12); m. BLANCHE M. HART; b. 15 Oct 1905; d. 23 Feb 1953, (Cape Wolfe Methodist/United Church Cemetery 7,1,0).

65. iv. CORA MURIEL GORRILL, b. 1907, Glenwood, Lot 8, Prince Co., PEI, Canada; d. 29 Sep 1990, (Dunblane West Point Presbyterian Church Cemetery 8,3,0).

 

Funeral services for the late Mr, Alfred Gorrill, who passed away at his home, “Rlverdale Farm,” Glenwood, on August 12th, were held in the Glenwood United Church on August 7th, with the Rev. John Sterling officiating. Interment was in the adjolning cemetery. Guardian Tuesday August 21, 1934

LOSS WILL BE FELT -- On the death of Alfred Gorrill on Sunday, August 12th, at Glenwood, the division of Illustration Stations loses one of its best operators. Mr. Gorrill has operated the station at Glenwood since 1927 with entire satisfaction to the division and the surrounding districts. Notable achievements of Mr Gorrill include the introduction of alfalfa and fodder corn in the district.

1933: Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Gorrill and sons, George and Harry of Glen- wood visited Mrs. J. H. Sheen. Locke Road in February and found her very much improved.
