My Family Tree

Peter McArthur is generally placed with the family of William John (family tree copied below). The name Peter could also have come from the McDougall family, which would make a good fit with the family of Malcolm and Ann (McDougall) McArthur.

Although the names of his parents are questionable, the rest of the information about Peter has been documented.

Peter was living on the Wester Road when he married Eliza McDonald from Lot 11 in 1860 in PEI. Her father was Alexander McDonald. The minister was Bible Christian, and the witnesses were David Robertson, John Bryan and Hugh McArthur. There was only one Peter McArthur, a farmer in Lot 12, in the 1861 census. He was between 21-45 years of age, and there was a woman in the same age group. There were two other females, one under 5 , and one from 16-21. One person was a Presbyterian and the rest were Bible Christian.

The family had moved to Kent County NB by the time of the 1871 census. They were Methodists. All of the children had been born on the Island.

MACARTHUR: Peter MacArthur b. 1822 on PEI, d. 1903, married Eliza or
Margaret McDonald b. 1833 on PEI, d. 1896: came to NB and settled in Kent
County: the only child mentioned was, George Thomas MacArthur b. 1870 on PEI,
d. 1944, married Emma Elizabeth Sherwood b. 1868 at Coates Mills, Saint Mary
Parish, Kent County, d. 1957, d/o Ebenezer Sherwood and Emily Jane C.A. Budd:
they settled at Grangeville in Harcourt Parish, Kent County and had issue.

This McArthur family tree places Peter with the family of William John McArthur, which doesn't seem unlikely given that one of Peter's sons was John William. However, no proof has been found for William John McArthur's existence.
