My Family Tree

Jannet Johnstone was born around 1822 in Scotland. She was the daughter of William Johnstone and Mary Lytle (or Little) who emigrated from Annan, Dumfries, Scotland around 1836, when Jannet would have been 14 years of age. William and Mary's children were listed in a book at Geddie Memorial Church, and Janet's parents were named in a record of her marriage in a Burrow's family bible; she was also in a Johnstone family history held by PEI Archives.

Jannet married William Mann in 1854, when she was 33.

When her brother James died in 1863, he left a sum of money to each of his four sisters: Isabella, Janet, Mary and Margaret, and named William Mann as one of his executors.

William and Jannet had five surviving children. Jannet died in 1866 at the age of 44. According to my grandfather, Les Mann, his grandmother Johnstone was a small woman, with a "tongue like an alligator", although I'm not sure how he knew this since she died many years before he was born. I wonder if he meant his step-grandmother, Mary Fraser Mann.
