Notes

Note

Malcolm married Catherine Reilly in 1813. Their children were Donald, James, Lilly, William, Charles, Malcolm, Charles, William B., Ann, Archibald (b. 1835), and Edward. The older children were in the Margate (actually Princetown) church records. I also wonder if the Hugh M. Ramsay who married Mary Ann Penwarden and lived in Searletown was a member of this family?

A Ramsay family tree on the Island Register listed these children: William George; Marie D. (Jan 1813); Donald (Nov 1813); James (1815-1865); Lilly (1817-1886); William B. (1819-1910); Malcolm (1824-1898); Charles (b. 1827); Ann (1831-1916); Archibald (b. 1835); Edward (b. 1837).

Catherine was said to have died in 1837 - possible Edward Longfellow Ramsay was their youngest son?

Malcolm was in Lot 26 in 1841 with a household of 12, all Presbyterian and all born on the Island. There were:
6 males and 1 female under 16 (Archibald, William, Charles, Edward, Malcolm Jr?, Ann)
2 males and 1 female from 16-45 (James, Donald (if alive) or Malcolm Jr)
1 male and 1 female, 45-60 (Malcolm Sr. and ?)
1 male over 60

If Malcolm's wife had died before this census, perhaps his daughter Lilly was living with him?

In 1849, Malcolm Ramsay the elder of Lot 26, near Bedeque, signed an agreement with his son Malcolm, a carpenter, that Malcolm Jr. would provide him with a home in exchange for land. The land was bounded by James Ramsay on the north, and Charles Ramsay on the east.

James, Lilly, Malcolm, Charles and Ann were all married by 1861. Malcolm was not a head of household in the 1861 census. He is probably the man over 60 in the household of James Ramsay, Lot 26. The census would include James' children, and the older members of the household would be his unmarried brothers and sisters.

Malcolm transfered his remaining land to his son James in 1865. James died that year, and in his will, he asked that his father be provided with a home as long as he lived.

Some of the information on this family came from another family tree, but every effort has been made to verify the information.
