My Family Tree

Archibald McDougall was living in Coleman, PEI when he married Sarah Jane Wilson. He was much older than Sarah Jane, but said he was a bachelor on the marriage record.

Archibald's son said that his father was born on Argyle Shore PEI. He said his father was the son of a Donald McDougall. Archibald himself said on the 1881 census that both of his parents were born in Scotland.

The Argyle history, however, doesn't mention an Archibald or a Donald who fits:

Allan MacDougall married Letitia (Ladner), daughter of Andrew Ladner and Sophia (Hobbs), and they raised their children, Samuel, John, Andrew, Archibald, Margaret, Letitia, Janet and Ewen in a home on the west side of the property. (History of Argyle Shore). The family tree on the Island Register said that this Archibald died young.

The original settler, John McDougall, married Mary (MacLean) and they both emigrated from Scotland in the early 1800's.They had eleven children, Catherine, Annabell (Archibald Ferguson of Hampton), Samuel, Mary (John Campbell of DeSable), Flora, Angus Andrew (Catherine Darrach), Alexander, James, Sarah (Charles Fisher), Peggy (John Livingston) and Duncan.

There was also an Archibald who married Louise Ladner - a son named Archibald would fit with their family, but he isn't mentioned in the online family tree. Also, Louise Ladner was born in Scotland.

An Archibald McDougall and his wife Sarah had a son Neil Ewen who died at age 11 in 1890. They were from Argyl Shore.
