From the inquest into his death:

The deceased was the last of a family of 21 children. In his younger days he had followed the sea and for the last 30 years lived in Alberton. His wife, the former Sarah Simmons of Centre Line Road, Lot 3, predeceased him many years ago. He leaves a family of two sons, Carmen and Howard Costain, and two daughters, Mrs. Fred Smith of Alma, and Mrs. Joseph A. Gallant of Summerside, for whom much sympathy will be extended in their sudden loss.
