Narrative
Alexander MacHarg, 78, of 4 Old Horace Greeley Rd, Amherst died Saturday October 16 1993 at Sr. Joseph Hospital Nashua. Mr. Macharg had been employed by the state of New Hampshire in the Purchase and Property Division for 15 years. during World War 2 he had been employed as a welder for Fall River Shipyard. Also, he had worked at Hayward's Cider Mill in amherst.
He was a graduate of Sommerville (Mass) High School and a graduate of Wentworth Institute, class of 1933.
Mr. MacHarg was born in Laconia on March 6 1915, son of the late Elmer and Catherine (Dyment) MacHarg. He had been a resident of Amherst for the past 30 years, having formerly resided in Pembroke, Mass.
He was the widower of Marjorie (Mort) MacHarg, who died in 1986.
Survivors included a daughter and grand-daughter.

In 1920, Alexander seemed to be living in a foster home in New Hampshire, with head of household Caroline Wynkoap. There were some 35 children on the census record attached to this household. Alexander was 4 years old and his birthplace was given as Florida. By 1930, his father had remarried and he was living with the family in Sommerville Massachusetts.
At the time of his marriage in 1944, Alexander was a carpenter.
