Notes
Note
NOTE: I might be wrong about some of the members of this family.
In January 1910, the Guardian published an article on the occasion of Hector McFadyen's 100th birthday.
Hector McFadyen was born January 1, 1810, two years after his father John McFadyen and his brother Alexander arrived from Mull, Argylshire, Scotland. From these two families have sprung the numerous progeny of McFadyens in the vicinity as well as Darrachs, Clyde River, McLeans, Desable, and many others.
Mr. McFadyen was strongly built over 6 feet in height with large bones and muscles and able to endure the hardest work and hardships. Inured to hard work in early years, helping his father to clear up land which was heavily wooded to the banks of West River and also busy lumbering in the winter he became a skillful expert in the use of the broadaxe and other lumbering tools.
Mr. McFadyen was always candid and outspoken against wrongdoings, honest and upright in his dealings, holding in utter contempt, slander abuse or gossip or its authors.
The rest of the article seems a bit jumbled, as far as the members of his family are concerned. It names Angus and Mrs McFadyen, Mrs. S. McEachern, Mrs. T. Kickham and son and A. McFadyen (Alexander?), who I assume were his children.
Hector, age 91 and his son Alex and grand-daughter Lizzie McNevin were living in Lot 65 in 1901.
Examiner -- 19001123 -- Page 02 Friday November 23, 1900 respected and aged farmer, Hector McFayden, Esq., of West River, inthe 91st year of his age. Mr. McFadyen is tall in stature and a look will convince you of his powerful build, being a survivor of the strong men of the past generation. His mental vigor is good, and being a man of intelligence, he is able with excellent judgment to review and dis- cuss matters affecting the interests of the people ...Mr McFadyen's brother Hugh, at Georgetown, is two years older and a supporter of Mr. Gordon; his brother Donald, dead some years ago, arrived at the great age of nearly 99 years.
