The engagements the result of a romance which began several years ago. when Ramsay was at the head of the Stanford' school, where the children of the college community get their early training. Root visited the Stanford campus to confer with Dr. David Starr Jordan on the peace situation. Dr. Jordan unwittingly played the role of Cupid and introduced his conferee' to "the pretty school principal". Miss Ramsay graduated from the history department of the university in 1901.
