Narrative

This George (b. 1868) is often mixed up with his uncle George Locke Dyment, son of Humphrey Dyment Jr.

George Dyment, born 5 May 1867, P.E.I., occupation labourer/carpenter, was the son of Thomas Dyment and Mary Matilda Moore. George was probably named after his uncle. He went with his family to the United States after the 1891 census was taken in PEI. George, son of Thomas and Matilda, married Ellen Jane Silliker, born 22 July 1874 in O'Leary, the daughter of John Silliker and Matilda Frost in Massachussets in December 1891. Their daughter Loretta was born a year later in Malden, Massachusetts.

In December 1899, there was a conveyance of land from John Morrison to George Dyment of 100 acres in Lot 9. George and Ellen Jane (Janie) were in PEI for the 1901 (Dynent) and 1911 (name transcribed as Desmond, Deamond or Diamond) census takings, but none of their children were in the PEI Baptismal Index. The family lived in Lot 9 (Mount Royal) and George was a farmer.

In 1901, children were Loretta (8), George Leslie (7), William Alton (6), Alice, John Thomas, and Fred. In 1911, children were Loretta (18), Leslie (17), Alton (16), Alice (13), John (12), Frederick (10), Annie (8), Edith (6), Jennie (4), and Willard (3).

The family returned to Massachusetts in 1916. George Dynunt (or Dynuit for some of the children) appeared in the 1920 Federal Census, age 52, with Jennie E. and 8 children: John T (21), Fred (19), Annie V. (18), Edith (16), Jennie V. (13), James w. (11), and Ruth (5). George (a carpenter) and Jennie were in the 1924 Malden directory. George died in 1925, and Jennie, widow of George, was in a Malden directory in 1927.

George was survived by his wife and six sons, Leslie, Alton, John, Fred, Willard and Earl and six daughters, Mrs Richard Adams (Loretta), Mrs Harry McDougall (Alice), Mrs Fred Conlon (Annie), Mrs. John Sullivan (Edith), Mrs Fred Neal (Jennie Viola), and Ruth, all of Malden.

In the 1930 US census, Jennie was a widow, living with Ruth (15), and Earl (9), in Malden. In 1940, Jennie and Earl Eugene were living with Ruth and her husband in Massachusetts.

Ellen Jane died on 6 Mar 1945 in Melrose, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA.

Death record for George confirms that he was the son of Thomas and Matilda (Moore).
