My Family Tree

I was unable to find Nancy/Annie McLean and Archibald McKay in the PEI Marriage Registers, and none of their children were in the PEI Baptismal Index.

Archibald McKay was in the 1861 census of Lot 18, with a household of 9. There were 2 boys under 5, and 2 boys and one girl between 6-15, and one girl between 16-21. There was one male and one female, probably Archibald and Annie, in the age 21-45 category. There was an older woman, over 60. 4 members of the household were deaf and dumb. All but one person were Presbyterian. There was a second household under the name Archibald McKay in Lot 18, an older couple.

Arch. McKay was in an 1871 directory in Lot 18.

Ann McKay was age 57, Scottish and Presbyterian, living with her husband Arch McKay Jr. in Lot 18 in the 1881 census. With them were adult children Margaret (27), Laughlin (24), Henry C. (23), Ewen (21) and George H. (17). The family had moved to Ellerslie Lot 12 by 1891, with Margaret, Henry and George at home. In this census, Nancy said that her father had been born in Scotland and her mother on PEI. Margaret and Henry were identified as being "deaf and dumb". George and his father were farmers.

Nancy died in 1900. At Ellerslie, Lot 12, on the 4th day of June, of pneumonia Nancy Maclean, wife of Archibald McKay, aged 77 years, leaving a husband, four sons and one daughter - 1900 Guardian
