I might be wrong about Eliza's mother.

According to a history of the Hutchinson family by Bev Millar, Daniel married Elizabeth McDougall. Daniel's first wife died young.

In the 1881 census, Daniel, Eliza and their daughter Mary were in Lot 27.

Eliza A. Hutchinson and her husband Daniel, both age 36, were living next to Elizabeth and Duncan McDougall in Lot 12 in 1891. Daniel was a joiner. They were all Presbyterian.

The names of her children echo those of other members of Duncan and Elizabeth's family, and Elizabeth would fit into their family tree - but what to do about Daniel's mother-in-law Catherine? Although "mother in law" could also be a step-mother, both of Daniel's parents were alive at the time of that census.

Catherine McDonat (?), born PEI, mother in law, widowed and age 56. (This was not Catherine Douglass Mellish McDougall, wife of Archibald, although she was around the same age). Catherine's father was born on the island, her mother in Scotland. It is my belief that Elizabeth's mother Catherine was Duncan's sister, the daughter of Alexander and Nancy McDougall. Note I have no proof of this!

Arthur Hutchinson filled out the death certificate for his mother. Eliza died at 77 years and 10 months on November 12 1932. She had lived on the Island all her life, and in Ellerslie for the last 30 years. He only knew her mother's name, Catherine Mcdougald, and that her mother had been born on the Island.
