Dyment, Eleanor Gorrill 1a
Narrative
Eleanor was the daughter of John Dyment and Harriet Cotton. Eleanor Gorrill Dyment's date of birth, 3 February 1867, and baptism were recorded in the PEI Baptismal Index and she can be found with her family in the 1881 census. She was identified as one of John's unmarried daughters in his will of 1886. Eleanor was named for John's youngest sister, Eleanor, who married Humphrey Gorrill.
After their father's death, Eleanor and two sisters, Margaret and Annie Laura, went to Massachusetts, where they found work. Margaret and Laura married. Eleanor cannot be found again until the 1920 US census, when she was living with the family of George and Annie Jaques in Newburyport, Massachusetts. She is identified as the aunt of William McDougall, son of Margaret Dyment and Solomon McDougall, in the 1930 census. She was not with that family in 1940, and her death record was in Tewksbury Massachusetts in 1933 according to the Town Clerk of that town.
Some family trees say that John and Harriet's daughter Eleanor married Lemuel Cudmore. This original error might stem from a census record, where her name look like Eleanor S. However, all documents show that Lemuel Cudmore's wife was Eleanor's cousin, Sarah Louisa Dyment. While Eleanor can be placed in Massachusetts from 1920 until her death in 1933, her cousin Sarah Louise Cudmore was living on the Island.
