In the 1901 census, Catherine McDugall was living in Lot 7 with her husband James, a blacksmith b. 1862 and three sons, Edward (1891), William R. (1894), and Walter L. (1896). There is also a girl with name transcribed as Ella McCain, described as adopted child. This is probably Catherine's youngest sister, Effa M. Cain.

In the 1921 census, James, Catherine, Roy (26) and Horace (11) were living in Greenshill, Lot 8. Her brothers George and Charles Cain were living in the next household.

1930, Obituary of McDougall from PEI Ancestry:
Charles McDougall was born in Bideford in May 1862, the son of Charles and Susan England McDougall. He was a blacksmith. He was survived by his widow, the former Catherine Cain, and four sons, Edward at Glenwood, Roy and Leigh, Rumford, Me., and Horace at home. (Catherine's husband was a blacksmith, but his name was James in the census record for 1911)

She died in 1938 at the age of 67. Her obituary in the Charlottetown Guardian was printed under the name Mrs. Robert Horne, and the mistake was noted in a later edition of the paper. At that time, Edward, Ray and Horace MacDougall were living in Springfield, and her son Leigh in Rumford, Maine.

Catherine's name sometimes written as Cain, Caine, Kane, Cane, as well as Katherine.
