Stephen Cononico
Of Millis, formerly of Newton, suddenly, July 19, 2008, age 50. Beloved husband of Debbie (MacLeod) for 25 years. Devoted father of Margo and Alex Cononico. Brother of Joyce Lombardi of Waltham, and the late Bruce Cononico and Donna Panaggio. Son of the late Angelo and Elsie (MacLeod) Cononico. Steve captained one of the toughest football teams ever to play at Newton North High School. His coach Norm Walker considered him the best ever. His leadership derived from his physical and emotional strength and also his loyalty to his team. Northeastern University recruited him upon his graduation from Newton North in 1976. He also excelled as a pitcher in baseball, but more significant than his athletic abilities was his caring personality. More than anything, he loved his wife, children, family and friends. Though big and rugged, Steve's outstanding qualities were gentleness, decency and love. Funeral from the Andrew J. Magni & Son F.H., 365 Watertown St, Rt. 16, NEWTON, Thursday at 9:30AM.
