Narrative

According to a local history, William Johnstone McEachern married Minerva MacKenzie.

On 14 February 1924, William McEachern b. 1900, entered the United States, giving his sister Mrs. William Boland as his US contact, and his mother Bessie as his Canadian contact. William Johnstone was a paper worker living in Lawrence, Massachusetts according to city directories in 1924 and 1925. He returned to PEI for the first time in four years in February 1929, for the funeral of his brother Garfield.

Johnstone was a carpenter when he started the paperwork to become an American citizen in 1924. On the declaration, he described himself as having light hair and blue eyes. He was 5'10" and weighed 175 lbs. In 1934, when Johnstone filled out another form for US citizenship, he was living in Cambridge, Massachusetts and was working as a produce dealer. His two sons were living in River John, Nova Scotia at that time.

He was living in Boston when his mother died in 1939.

There is a Minerva MacKenzie in the Nova Scotia 1911 census, daughter of Effie and Leonard. She was born on 16 April 1908. In the 1930 US census, a Minerva MacKenzie, b. Nova Scotia 1909 was working as a servant in Melrose, Middlesex, Massachusetts. She had emigrated in 1928. A Minerva H. MacEachern b. 16 April 1908, died in Canada on 23 April 1997, with Massachusetts as the place the social security number was issued.

W. Johnstone MacEachern and his wife Minerva were in Watertown, Massachusetts city directories from 1931-1938. Johnstone was a millright.

Minerva and Johnstone had two sons. The family was not together in the 1940 US census, as far as I can tell. There is a William J. McEachern in the 1940 census in the Boston Asylum as a patient; however, there was more than one William J. McEachern in Massachusetts at the time he was living there.

There is a death record for a William McEachern in 1972, born on the same date, in Massachusetts. Find A Grave Memorial# 157600347
