My Family Tree

Surrounded by his entire family of three sons and two daughters on Tuesday March 23rd. in the old home he has occupied in Brae Harbour for almost 75 years. Mr Thomas Oulton celebrated the 88th anniversary of his birth. Born at Trout Brook Little Shemoque Westmorland County NB, and as a small boy he and his parents moved to Prince Edward Island and resided at Port Hill and district for a few years before he moved to Brae Harbour with his father the late Robert Trenholm Oulton a silver black fox pioneer and he hewed out of the forest the splendid farm of 180 acres on the west shore of the Northumberland Strait, which he and his youngest son Roy have occupied and farmed all these intervening years.
In spite of his 88 years, while Mr. Oulton suffered a severe illness a year or so ago he is now enjoying fairly good health. He has a keen mind and often gives reminiscent talks of the good old days when he had to start out before daybreak in the morning to drive his team of horses to Summerside for supplies etc. in order to get back home on the same day. He continues to be a keen reader, takes a great interest in the news of the day and when weather an roads permit regularly attends church services in the Brae United Church of which he is the senior Elder and this high and holy office he has held continuously in that church for thirty two years.
Present for the birthday celebration were his son Humphrey G and Mrs. Oulton of Glenwood; his son Robert T. and Mrs. Oulton of the Brae; their daughters Green (Mrs. Gerald Gamble) and her little son Robert, a great grandson, thus representing four generations; Mrs. Vernon Metherall (Pearle), a daughter who is living with her father and Mrs. W. A. Trenholm (Eleanor), a daughter with her husband from Montreal and Roy (son) and his wife from the home farm.
Mrs. Oulton predeceased her husband almost three years ago at the age of 85 years.
