Narrative

Jane was the daughter of Captain William Johnstone, and her mother died young. Her birth was not recorded in the PEI Baptismal Index. She was the last surviving daughter in her family.

Although at first I believed she fit the family of William Johnstone and Grace Burrows, I now think that this is wrong. Jane was not named in the obit or will of William Johnstone, the merchant who married again after the death of his first wife - there were no young brothers and sisters for Jane to take care of, as stated in her obituary. Her death record confirmed the names of her parents.

David Whitehead's entry in the history of Margate PEI:

David, son of William Whitehead Jr. and Rebecca Power married Jane Johnstone, 1853-1925. David was a carpenter as well as a farmer. He died in 1912. They had the following family:
Ida, John, Mildred, Bessie, Jennie, Cassie, Lila and a daughter who died in infancy.

Ida married and lived in the U.S.A. (m. Arthur Ready)
Mildred, Bessie and Jennie moved to western Canada. Jennie
is still living. One of these sisters [Mildred] was Mrs Harry Jones.
Cassie married Walter Wigmore, Graham's Road. They ' re
now retired and living in Kensington. They had ten children, all
now living.
Lila married Fred Henderson, Margate, who served in the
First World War. They have eight children, all living. She is now
a widow.

 

Mildred Whitehead married Preston Walker (birth name Evans) and then after his death married Robert Henry (Harry) Jones.
