Narrative
Another brave boy from Long River New London has paid the supreme sacrifice at the front. The sad news that Gr. Arthur Johnstone, a member of the No. 2 Seige Battery had fallen in action was conveyed by telegram to his mother, Mrs. Andrew Johnstone, Long River, on Thursday July 19th. Arthur was 20 years of age and without doubt one of the finest young men in New London. Soon after war broke out he donned the khaki and being too young to go overseas served in home defence till being of age he joined the No. 2 Seige Battery under Major Prowse, D. S. O.
Only a year ago his schoolmate and cousin Archie Campbell was killed in action. The writer at the time was their teacher and truly he never taught two better or more manly boys than Arthur Johnstone and Archie Campbell. His brother Ernest is now in England too, on his way to the firing line also, having left Charlottetown this spring as a member of the Artillery Draft under Lieut. Davison.
