Lauchlin McKendrick was born about 1734 in Scotland. His wife Rachel Galbraith was born about 1736 in Scotland, and died April 7, 1838 at the age of 102. They left Scotland with two of their three children, Donald and Janet, to go to P.E.I., about 1771, according to Rachel's death notice, and they were possibly on the Annabella. According to a family legend, their son, Neil missed the boat and was left behind with his grandfather.

The passenger list for the Annabella, which left Campbelltown, Argyllshire, in 1770, has not been found. Some the the families said to have been on the ship were: Ramsay, MacGougan, MacLean, MacKendrick, MacKelvie, Hendry, MacIntosh, Campbell, MacArthur, Carr, MacNeill, MacLellan, MacIssac, MacMillan, Matthews, Stewart, Mountain, Heywood, MacKay, Murphy, Inglis, English, Allanby, MacDougall, Sinclair. Although some accounts said there were 60 families, this would be an unusually large number for the size of the ships transporting emigrants in those days, and this could be the complete list.

What is certain is that these were the names of the early Scottish settlers in Prince County. Lauchlin and Rachel settled in Princetown, and had five more children, Duncan, Malcolm, Penelope, Hugh and Laughlin Jr. However, Hugh's age at death might indicate that he was born in Scotland.

According to Nina Ross (PEI Archives), Lauchlin and Rachel first settled on Lot 17, then moved to Lot 18.
