Annie was the daughter of Archibald Johnstone, originally from Long River PEI, and Olivia Hockin. Her mother died when she was young, and her father and his second wife went to the States. Annie was not living with them in 1880. She was in Illinois when she married John Obediah McArthur in 1885.
