He is probably the Archibald Ramsay who received a government land grant for Pasture Lot 104 in Princetown in 1789 (GOVERNMENT GRANTS; C', P' & G'TOWN, PEIGS PUBLICATION). He was in the 1798 census in Princetown, with a household of 7: 3 boys and 2 girls under 16, and an older couple.
Archibald and his wife Helen Montgomery followed the traditional naming practice, with a daughter Mary after her maternal grandmother, John for his paternal grandfather, Margaret for her paternal grandmother and Hugh for his maternal grandfather. Their son Donald could have been for an uncle on either side, and Archibald and Helen after their parents. Norman McLeod was named after Helen's brother-in-law, a sea captain who was lost at sea.
Beach Point Ramsays - from their gravestone:
Archibald Ramsay Esq of Beach Point a native of Argyleshire Scotland who emigrated to this Island in 1770, died March 1839, aged 83 years
Also his beloved wife Helen, a native of the same place, who emigrated in 1771.
See also Past and Present of PEI, "The paternal grandfather, Archibald Ramsay, who was a native of Scotland, settled at Prince Edward Island in 1770"
Norman Ramsay died without a will in 1860, and named on the release and quit claim were his brothers and sisters, and brothers-in-law as well as the children of his brother John, who predeceased him: Hon David Ramsay, Beech Point; Archibald the elder, Bay de Chaleur, NB; Mary McEwen, New London; Margaret McEwen, widow of Joseph; Rev Robert Patterson and wife Helen; Hugh Ramsay, Restigouche, NB. Mary's husband wasn't listed, but Benjamin McEwen also signed his agreement at the end of the document. Lad Registry Office, Land Conveyances vol 78 pg 100
