Birth Name Taylor, Margaret
Gender female
Age at Death unknown

Notes

Note

Margaret Taylor was born in Scotland. No marriage record was found for her and John Ramsay. The first indication of a relationship between them is 1748, when their son Donald was baptized in Campbelton, Argyll, Scotland. Margaret had children from 1748 to 1766, which indicates that her date of birth was sometime between 1720 and 1730.

Margaret emigrated with her family to the Island of St. John, current day Prince Edward Island, in 1770 with her husband and sons. There is no record of a daughter accompanying the family. The family lost everything they brought with them when the ship, the Annabella, ran aground. They also discovered that the town of Princetown, shown to them on maps, did not exist. The native peoples showed them the animals and plants they could eat, and where to find them.

There is no record of Margaret's death, or even if she survived the first winter in their new home.

Some sources say that John Ramsay's wife was Mary Shannon, but no marriage or baptismal records have been found to support this. It is possible the authors of a local history mixed up the name of Hugh Montgomery's wife, Mary McShannon, with the wife of John Ramsay, and that this was simply a typo.
