Narrative
Alexander McArthur married Margaret E. McLean on June 20th 1871 by the Rev. R. Cumming.
The death occurred at Northam on April 25th of Mrs Emily McArthur, widow of the late Alexander MacArthur. Deceased who was in her 89th year had enjoyed excellent health until less than a year ago. Possessed of a very charitable and generous disposition Mrs. MacArthur made friends wherever she went and many will recall acts of kindness shown them by her. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and always attended Divine worship when her health permitted.
She leaves to mourn five daughters and two sons. Mrs. James Dyment, Mrs Edmund Maynard and Mrs Charles Colwill all of Northam; Mrs. Annie Maynard, Port Hill; Mrs. Sargent Phillips, Mount Royal; Edward and Daniel, Northam. Three sons predeceased her, Hatfield, Herbert and Alfred...The funeral service was attended by a large number of relaives and friends from various parts of the island. A cousin has pointed out that the names on these two pictures have probably been switched, with the younger couple being Emily and Alexander.
