Humphrey, Sophia Jane
Narrative
Sophie gave her date of birth as 10 November 1839 in the 1901 and 1911 census records, and as 1841 in 1881 and 1891, with 1840 on her gravestone. Her date of birth in the PEI Baptismal Index was 7 February 1840, but since she wasn't baptized until 9 February 1857 perhaps an error was made.
Sophia Jane Humphreys, a spinster from Lot 19, married Andrew Woodside, bachelor from New London in 1866.
Sophia was living with her husband, son, and in-laws in the 1881 census. Some of the Woodsides gave their religion as "Second Advent"; Sophia was Methodist. Also living in the household were Elizabeth and Emma Woodside - they are described as a sister and lodger in the next census; from the Baptismal Index, it looks like Emma was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Woodside and therefore a grand-daughter of the older couple. They were living in Queens, Lot 20. In the 1891 census, Leslie had changed his religion to Baptist.
In the 1921 census, Sophie was 82, and said that both of her parents had been born in England. Her son Leslie (57) and Bertha (51) were in the same household, with their son Elton, age 9.
