Humphrey, Charles Jr.
Narrative
Charles Humphrey was born in 1828 in Scotland, and emigrated to Prince Edward Island with his family in the 1830s. He was a farmer in Harding's Creek, later called Clinton (Prince Edward Island).
In 1856, Charles Humphrey Lot 19 was married to Agnes Fyfe of New London by license by Francis Metherale, the Bible Christian minister. Witnesses were John Fife and Andrew Humphrey; John Fyfe also co-signed the marriage bond with Charles. Charles signed the record, an indication that he was literate.
He and Agnes had no children of their own, but adopted Wallace in 1855, and his niece Ellen Jane in the 1860s. Wallace was not found in census records after 1861.
In 1877, a newspaper notice said that Charles was behind on his rent, and risked losing his land.
In the 1881 census, Charles and Agnes had their niece and adopted daughter Ellen Jane living with them, as well as Agnes' nephew William Bennet McEachern, the son of her younger sister Margaret.
