Son of Alexander McDougall and Nancy McLean.
Alexander McDougall did not leave a will, but the administration papers for his estate list his children. The two eldest, Hugh and John, were absent from the Island: Hugh in Miramichi, and John in Saint John, New Brunswick. This fits with the John from PEI who married Sarah McRae.
John McDougall, bachelor from Blackville Parish married Sarah Ann McRae in Northumberland, New Brunswick in 1844. George and Hugh McRae were witnesses. In two census records, they had a girl named McRae living with them.
John and Sarah were in Chipman with Alexander, Hugh, George, Sarah, Duncan, and Charles. John's son Alexander said he was born in Miramichi in 1846.
In the 1891 census, the widower John said that both of his parents were born in Scotland.
