The date of birth for James, son of Peter and Elizabeth McDougle, was October 19 1843 in Chatham church records. But his age in the 1851 and 1861 census gives an earlier year of birth, 1839. The 1881 census record is unreadable. In 1891, James McDougall was 47. The James McDougall that I think was him in the 1901 census gave his date of birth as October 27 1846.

From A Vye family tree, it seems that it was James McDougald from Blackville, not John, who married Elizabeth Foy in 1864, in Northumberland. Birth records for the children of James and Elizabeth McDougall gave their father's place of birth as Miramichi and their mother's name as Foy or Foye. In the 1891 census, this James McDougall said his father was born on PEI.

A James Mcdougall, son of Alfred McDougall and Elizabeth Voye died in Fredericton at the age of 91. He had been born in Miramichi October 8 1840. His wife was Elizabeth, and his daughter Maud Drysdale.
